Open Horizons
The world of work is becoming more and more demanding and employers are seeking recruits with ever higher levels of qualifications. In particular the demand for graduates is growing and is predicted to grow further.

But many young people, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, do not see Higher Education as an option for them. Open Horizons addresses this. It aims to widen participation in Higher Education (HE) by giving young people a better understanding of what HE involves and the opportunities that it affords.
Open Horizons is aimed at young people in Key Stages 3,4 and 5. It takes young people out of the classroom on a visit (or visits) to a company and/or to a Further/Higher Education provider. Through highly structured and tailored programmes of activities it gives participants insight into what further study involves and the benefits it brings- in particular into the types of careers that can be aspired to with further study. |
